Ep 195 Beneath Planet of the Apes: Do You Expect Us To Talk?

Do You Expect You to Talk? returns with Charlie Brigden with the next film in the Planet of the Apes series. Following on from the first movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes see another astronaut, Brent, land back on earth in the future, in search of Taylor – conveniently bumping into Nova after Taylor disappears. Quickly learning about where he is and the events of the last film, Brent finds himself in the forbidden zone to an old subway station where he finds what lays beneath the planet of the apes. Meanwhile, General Ursus, the military leader of the ape society leads a charge to lay siege to the forbidden zone.

Starring Charlton Heston as an astronaut who crash lands on a strange planet where Apes rule and humans are caged animals treated like pests. In a bid to win his freedom, he must prove who is who he says he is or face experimentation. Joining us for this series is regular guest Charlie Brigden who is a fan of the films, adding further depth to the discussion.

Do You Expect Us To Talk? concludes its Spider-Man series (or does it?) with the animated Into The Spider-Verse. Set in a different universe, it follows Miles Morales, a young teenager from New York who’s been sent to boarding school having to adjust to his new way of life. When he is bitten by a spider from a different dimension, Miles picks up spider like powers. As Spider-Man dies trying to stop Kingpin from using a super-collider that would cause untold damage. Teaming up with other versions of Spider-Man from other realities, Miles must get the grip with his powers to stop Kingpin and send the others back home.

Do you expect us to Talk? returns with its Spider-Man series without Spider-Man. Taking the symbiote story from an alternative direction, without Topher Grace in sight. Sending it straight to Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist now working in San Francisco after getting kicked out of New York from upsetting too many people with his confrontational attitude. Eddie loses his job and his girlfriend after upsetting the CEO of the bio-engineering corporation Life Foundation, who are conducting human trails with the symbiote they discovered. Brought back into the game when approached by a whistleblower with nowhere else to turn, Eddie comes into contact with the symbiote becoming Venom.

Do You Expect Us To Talk continues its Spider-Man series with the final ill-fated Mark Webb movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2. As Peter Parker graduates from school, he is conflicted about maintaining his relationship with Gwen. Causing friction with their relationship, Gwen gets an offer from Oxford that may end this indefinitely. Meanwhile at Oscorp, Harry Osborn takes over the company after his father’s death. As the board members plan to oust him from the company, Harry is desprate to find a cure for his genetic disease . Meanwhile a loner Oscorp employee who is obsessed with Spider-Man has an accident fusing him with electricity.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the next stop off point for Do You Expect Us To Talk? Rebooting the franchise with an origin story 10 years from first spider-man film, takes Peter Parker back to school. Discovering his fathers old briefcase, Peter is compelled to delve into his father’s old work place, Oscorp, to find answers to what happened. Leading to an old college, Curt Connors, who is under pressure to come up for a cure for all illness and hopefully grow back his arm, experimenting with cross species eugenics. This turns Connors into a huge Lizard as Peter gets to grips with his new powers and the loss of his uncle.

All the the while finding out the new villain on the scene who has some how merged with sand, is the one who was responsible for Uncle Ben’s death. Meanwhile, an alien being lands in New York and attaches itself to Spider-Man’s suit.

Do You Expect Us To Talk? returns with the next instalment of the Tobey Maguire cry-athon with Spider-Man 2. Picking things up from the first film, Peter is fighting crime as Spider-Man, as MJ becomes a big star and is dating an astronaut and Harry has taken over his father’s business while resenting Spider-Man for killing his father. Not finding a balance between life as a crime fighter and his everyday life, the frustrations of everything going wrong is starting to get to Peter. Harry introduces him to Dr Octavius, who about to create a self-sustaining fusion reaction to create a new energy source. When the project goes wrong, it leaves the Dr ruined, with a twisted mind leading to life of crime. Just as a new foe emerges, spider-man starts to lose his powers, leaving him to consider which life does Peter Parker want?
