It’s commentary time for Do You Expect Us To Talk? as we transition into another franchise. These commentaries a regular stop gap to revisit Bond and since its been a while, Dave chose one of our favourites, Casino Royale. The starting point to our current Bond was a reset for the franchise as Daniel Craig gives a blistering debut.
Sit back and listen as Becca, Dave and Chris discuss why Little Britain isn’t talked about any more, not Edward Norton, the interest in looking at dead bodies, Michael G Wilsons cameos, differences in airline versions and Judi Dench’s chest.
Do You Expect Us To Talk? returns to continue Marvels phase 3 as we delve into a new character Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as an arrogant neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange who after suffering from a massive car crash leaves his hands permanently damaged. After hearing about one man who found a mystic cure in Kamar-Taj, high in the Himalayas, Stange ventures there. There he meets the Ancient One who teaches him sorcery astral plane and other dimensions. Meanwhile, a former student of the Ancient One, Kaecilius and his zealots seek to connect with Dormammu of the Dark Dimension who will engulf Earth.
Join Becca, Dave and Chris as we sequentially discuss, arsehole lead characters, how easy it is to find things in Kathmandu, the star power of Benjamin Bratt, Mads Mikkelsen being wasted, Rachel McAdams being wasted, bad American accents, fun facts, things happening in reverse and Michael Stuhlbarg being wasted.
Long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, Do you expect us to talk returns with the last of our Star Wars reviews. Until the new film comes out next month that is. Rogue one sees the first spin off movie telling the original tale of a orphan who’s father works for the empire. Joining the rebellion to fight the empires might. Maybe not original then but if its not broke don’t fix it. Set just before the events of A New Hope, Rogue one tells the story of how the rebellion got hold of the Death Star plans highlighting its weakness.
Join Becca, Chris, David and guest Charlie Brigden on computer generated actors, the rarity of the third act being the better than the rest, Felicity Jones having plums in her mouth, how many coloured storm troopers are there, the competitively nature of the empire workplace, quipping jokes of Darth Vader and Donnie Yen being a bad-ass.
So we’ve now reached the last leg of the Bond series with the beginning of the Daniel Craig era with Casino Royale. We make no bones about it, this is one of the finest films in the series in our opinion so prepare yourselves for a love letter as we jizz all over it for 2 hours.
Introducing Craig as James Bond, this is a reboot of the franchise that takes Bond back to his roots as a fresh 00 agent. Starring Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, and Jeffrey Wright, the central plot takes place at a high stakes poker game in order to trap a financier of terrorism. Directed by Martin Campbell returning to the series for the second time to breath new life into the franchise.
Listen as we enjoy the film sequentially and praise the fuck out of it.
