Ep 190 Venom: Do You Expect Us To Talk?

Do you expect us to Talk? returns with its Spider-Man series without Spider-Man. Taking the symbiote story from an alternative direction, without Topher Grace in sight. Sending it straight to Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist now working in San Francisco after getting kicked out of New York from upsetting too many people with his confrontational attitude. Eddie loses his job and his girlfriend after upsetting the CEO of the bio-engineering corporation Life Foundation, who are conducting human trails with the symbiote they discovered. Brought back into the game when approached by a whistleblower with nowhere else to turn, Eddie comes into contact with the symbiote becoming Venom.

Join Becca, Dave and Chris as we discuss, rare 90 minute run times, Tom Hardy is good at comedy, Chris gets confused with his Woodys, why this series likes the trope of scientists rushing to human trials, Hollywood new trope of “the other guy” being nice and the other film out that year about simular themes with a Tom Hardy lookalike.

Do You Expect Us To Talk Will Return with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Ep 185 Spider-Man: Do You Expect Us To Talk?

Do You Expect Us To Talk? returns with another series and to Marvel, long before the extended universe became a thing. In many ways Spider-man gave super hero movies the big push to the big screen. Directed by The Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi, it stars Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and follows him through high school through to getting bitten by a genetically engineered spider and gaining spider-like powers. With great power comes great responsibility, Peter becomes a masked crime fighter, while new nemesis, The Green Goblin emerges.

Follow Becca, Dave and Chris as we discuss, how crap screen versions of spider-man were before this film, does Spider-Man 2002 hold up today, why it would make sense for Peter to let the robber with odd memorable hair pass, villains that die leaving the hero not accountable, high schoolers in their 30s, Harry Osborn is a terrible friend and why would MJ ever be interested in a weird stalkery crybaby.
