Ep 59 Star Trek Into Darkness Commentary : Do You Expect Us To Talk?

The penultimate episode has arrived… before we finish our Star Trek journey in our rankings episode, we all sit around the TV with Charlie and watch the masterpiece that is Star Trek Into Darkness (insert sarcasm)

Is it a part Netflix part BluRay watch as we talk all over what turns out to be the most redundant Star Trek film. Join us as we talk about Spock’s hair, Kirks method of fixing stuff, how none of it makes sense and how we wish we’d listened to the fans and watched the 2009 Star Trek instead.

Ep 57 Star Trek Beyond : Do You Expect Us To Talk?

This is it… the last stop in your Star Trek journey and we now end with the latest of the reboots, Star Trek Beyond. Possibly coming at the time where the appetite for this movie franchise is fading due to Into Darkness sucking and Discovery coming out. The new crew had to celebrate its 50th anniversary with hopefully a decent film. Did they manage it?

Join Becca, Dave, Chris and guest Charlie as look this installment and wonder if Into Darkness is now written out of existence, do we need to see the Enterprise get destroyed again, is it still cool to like The Beasty Boys and what is Simon Pegg’s obsession with the word “lassy”?

Ep 56 Star Trek Into Darkness: Do You Expect Us To Talk?

The Starship DYEUTT reachs what is the probally the worst revived films in the franchise according to Star Trek fans. While we enjoyed ourselves while shaking our heads at the stupidity of last week, this we week strach our heads as the cracks of stupid begin to revieal itselfs even more. As Kirk gets the ship taken off of him only to get the ship back litually 5 minetes afterwards (a flippent guess but probably not far off), Kirk gets orders from Robocop a attack mission to kill Khan.. I mean John Harrison in a film that ivolves people frozen in missals and magic blood.

Join Becca, Dave, Chris and guest Charlie Brigdon as we review a film that get everything wrong. I this episode we disscuss, who is Cumberbach actually playing, who thought keeping the identaly of the villien a secret was a good idea, how this effects the overall story or delvepment of any of the characters at all, why did Alice Eve need to be in this film and how Chris Pine likes to fix stuff.

Ep 55 Star Trek : Do You Expect Us To Talk?

On the last strech of our Star Trek Jorney, the USS Do You Expect Us to Talk reachs the reboots. Star Wars fan JJ Abrams takes us back to Jim Kirk on his first adventure on board the Enterprise with a diffrent twist. This time the timeline has been disrupted by a Romulian ship from the future and a new timeline starts.

As ever as it’s Star Trek. Becca, Dave and Chris are joined by Charlie as we bitch and complain about a film we find gets everything wrong but somehow we all enjoy and like. Listen as we talk about Roberto OrciAlex Kurtzman’s finer works, lense flare, the Kobayashi Maru again and why are Kirk and Spock such dicks in this.

Guardians of the Galaxy Spoiler Podcast

Hey it’s about a week late but here’s a spoiler podcast on Guardians of the Galaxy. Joining me  is my regular partner in crime Scott  and regular spoiler contributors Amon   and Chris (Mr Ejizu)   and we all gather to talk about Marvel’s latest instalment and what was potentially their biggest gamble turn out to be a smash hit.

Directed by James Gunn and staring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel, expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe to another galaxy was a band of misfits get together to save the universe.

We recorded on my birthday so apologises if sounds of me eating birthday cheesecake come through but what the hey.

Be aware that this is a SPOILER podcast so we ruin the heck out of it, however most of the world has already seen it already anyway but just in case.

We also chat about Comic-Con and me and Amon have a disagreement about Expendables 3 and rank the Marvel films in order of preference.

Guardians of the Galaxy By Thomas Ward

By Thomas Ward

“It’s like you said, bitch. We’re the Guardians of the Galaxy”

A fast-paced, kinetic, hilarious and incredible space romp that introduces us to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of misfits who form an uneasy alliance to take on Ronan the Accuser, a Kree radical who targets the Guardians after they interfere with his plans.

I was lucky enough to attend the UK regional premiere of Guardians, seeing a week ahead of release. I’m very thankful for it. Moving at a swift 2 hour running time, director James Gunn delivers a hugely satisfying adventure that has no meat on the bones and only serves to make you enjoy yourself. How it all fits into the grander scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is yet to be seen as the premiere screenings did not include the post-credits sequence (of which Gunn has since admitted has only just wrapped filming).

On first viewing, on sheer fun alone, it eclipses every film that has come before it. It’s refreshing to see a new bunch of characters, especially characters that are so charming and funny. Special mentions are reserved for Rocket Raccoon, voiced exceptionally by Bradley Cooper and his sentient tree companion, Groot voiced and motion-captured by Vin Diesel. Both are hilarious and fantastic in their own right.

As it stands, the Avengers remains the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be tough to beat Whedon’s mammoth team-up but Guardians of the Galaxy is certainly up there with The Winter Soldier as the best that Marvel has to offer. May Marvel live on because with the close of Phase Two and Age of Ultron just round the corner, it shows no signs of stopping.
